While listening to "Cherie FM" a popular french radio, I heard a song that was not only catchy, but also had lyrics that truly touched my heart. The song was written as part of a project of the UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund), and part of the album "Paris-Africa" who is raising awareness and funds for impoverished countries in the Horn of Africa, where extreme famine and drought make fresh water scarce. This song "Des Ricochets" (Skimming Stones) is the outcry of the children, asking for water to live and play, like any child should. More than 60 French and international artists came together for the project. Enjoy the video and to learn more, visit http://www.unicef.fr/Paris-Africa/
I could've been a kid A little child smiling I wouldn't care about being wet As I wouldn't care about the last rain But there's no water here Just an ordinary silence Always heavier and heavier Crushing us like hell All I wanted was play But not with my life And I see you shed Tears we don't have anymore here All I'd like to do is dance To make the rain fall I look at you digging The Earth but not for wells Chorus # I don't want charity I don't want to disturb I just want some water Skimming Stones Skimming Stones (x2) I could've been a kid (With a wonderful destiny) Like any other growning up (Far away from the dunes of Africa) Without having to stare (Without having to endure) A sky that's forgetting you (A sky with no future) I'm not asking for a stream Let alone a river I just want to throw Bottles in the sea All I wanted was play But not with my life And I see you shed Tears we don't have anymore here All I'd like to do is dance To make the rain fall I look at you digging The Earth but not for wells Paris - Africa All united for the same fight Don't let them be ignored or forgotten May the world wake up; it's time we do something |
